White Sands, Flamingo Bay (Aug 14th…….)   5 comments

Since Jeffs was not the place to be, we headed further north towards Barra.  This was a great decision as we pulled in to camp at White Sands.  As you can see from the photo’s our view from the campsite is amazing.  We are the only campers and with the bay to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east we could not have picked a better spot.

The local tradesmen are also fun and we have met Carlos who brings prawns and calamari, Mr Price (yup – his real name) who bring coconuts and Raoul and Bongo who are came to visit and show us their wares.  We spend yesterday afternoon (14th) having lunch at Barra Lodge (Dad – we were laughing at the day you got your bum wet getting off the ship) and lying in our hammocks (an inspired pressie from the Kings).  We were the envy of all the passers by as we had a little snooze and did a little birding “hammock style’.  Soon it was time for sundowners.  Being unemployed is such hard work !!

Before you all get too jealous, there are always camp chores and the washing gets done by hand. Here’s proof…….

With very little light pollution, the stars are very clear.  Last night we had Saturn, Mars and Spica (part of Virgo) all lined up in a row – looking like Orions belt.  Scorpio was also very clear and to Andrews delight so was Sagittarius which all Sagittarians will tell you is the centre of the galaxy. .

Since it’s so lovely here we have decided to hang out until Monday and have a little holiday……..  After all, we only have to be in Gorongosa Aug 31st.
