Letaba (Aug 6–9th)   2 comments

Much of our time was spent doing camp chores, even the vacuuming and laundry.  It was nice to sit in the camp whilst everyone was racing around the Kruger – the bird life is quite prolific and the walk along the river is very pleasant.

A women’s work is never done.

As with most camps, the vervets are there to outwit you – they flank from all sides and when you try to fend them off, one slips behind you and steals a bag of prunes.  I just hope prunes work the same for monkeys as they do for people !!!!!!

However, it’s not only the vervets you have to watch out for, the birds also try and outwit you to steal your breakfast.  First come the blue-eared Starlings, then the yellow and red billed hornbills, then come the red-winged starlings, some bulbuls, a lonesome barbet and finally last as always, the helmeted guinea fowls. After a few days we realised that there was a definite ‘pecking order’ amongst the birds.

Bacon, eggs and a Bath !!!

We received news of the Jhb snow from various friends and family, whilst we were glad to miss the snow it did have a knock on effect in the Kruger.  We had temperatures as low as 3C which was freezing as we had taken our summer duvet, expecting Kruger to be toasty and warm.  Andrew even jumped into his thermal long johns .    Brrrrrrrrr……….
