No place like home….   5 comments

Well, by now you must be thinking we have fallen off the face of the Earth but no, we have been enjoying a week in Polokwane.  We came out of Moremi and stayed back in Maun whilst Steed had his 60,000kms service.  After which we decided that given the coupler issues, that Nxai Pans probably wasn’t a smart idea and that we should rather come across the border a week early and take the time to get parts in Polokwane.    So, we high tailed it down to the border.  We treated ourselves to a chalet at Nata Lodge – what a treat it was – clean, comfortable, spacious.  We decided to do the same at Kwa-Noneng at the border – what a let down, the chalets were dirty, cramped and certainly not on a par with Nata – we should rather have camped, even if it was for one night.

After a very quick and smooth border crossing we were in SA.  What a contrast – green, lush, cold, great roads and what an exciting time we had when we hit the supermarkets – everything was on offer.  Mall of the North became our second home as we stocked up on goodies, went to movies, out for lunch etc.  In between we got the parts we needed and fixed old humble up again ready for his pre-Xmas SA tour.

But our news was not all happy – as we were heading for SA, the reduced performance light came on in the Car.  So, old Steed went off to Landrover Polokwane where he has spent a week.  The fault is intermittent so the guys are struggling to find the root cause but are diligently trying everything.  In the meantime Landrover Assist have been great – they hired us a Hyundai Ix35 to use for the week and are now busy sending us a Discovery 4 (or similar) so we can carry on our holiday until Steed is back.

So today, we will be heading for Mapungubwe as scheduled and then into the Kruger.   We have bought a datacard so if you want to email us, you might just get a reply.

Cheers for now……
