Guinjata Bay (Aug 13th)   Leave a comment

Off we headed north towards Guinjata Bay.  The lady at Zongoene recommended Jeff’s resort, so off we set looking for the sea and all the peace and prawns that it brings.

First piece of advice – if your instincts tell you not to follow a route (despite the map and local police) then don’t go.   Up the dunes we went until we could go no further.  We had flashbacks to our getting stuck in Moremi but without the Kings for moral support (and photos).  You realise there is nothing around when the locals don’t even arrive to watch.  Anyway – we recovered nicely but minus a hub-cap for Humble.  I’m sure we just donated a frisbee to the local children.

We did find an easier route and arrived at Jeffs.  The Bay is beautiful but that’s not what we can say for Jeffs.  Truly disappointing.  We sort of camped next to a half finished building with no hot water, electricity etc.   We also overlooked (and listened) to a building site – not what we were expecting.   Our advice to anyone camping is not to go to Jeffs but we would say to anyone who wants to visit the bay to rent one of the houses overlooking it, as it is beautiful.   We do have photos which we will put on flickr once the internet connection is better.

As we sat having dinner, we looked at each other and burst out laughing as we were serenaded by Rolf Harris singing ‘two little boys’, ‘tie me kangaroo down’ and ‘waltzing matilda’ (which Andrew thought for many years was the Australian national Anthem) coming from a party next door.

Highlight – the fun in the sand (after we recovered successfully), the happiness felt by Andrew and Steed as they overcame their fear of sand.

Lowpoint – Jeffs !!
