What’s it like not to work?? 1 comment
Humble’s (Im)patience 1 comment
Hi,
Humble here. Well, it’s all go or so they keep saying. There is certainly much activity but to what end I don’t know. They have been prodding, poking and even drilling holes in me, all of which I have tolerated, as they keep promising me an adventure of a lifetime. This adventure however seems a long way off if I look at what the others are up to.
Andrew has had his hair shaved off and whilst very practical he really should re-think the image. He still has to move bonsai’s and a thousand other chores so I think this adventure is some way off yet.
I heard Pauline say that it’s her last day at Investec tomorrow which gives me hope that we might be leaving soon. She did put some clothes and food in my cupboards, so that’s always a good sign. There are none of Andrew’s clothes so maybe he’s not going?? They really don’t tell me much at all. I guess I will have to wait and see.
Steed is also eager to go and is looking forward to proving all those nasty Toyotas wrong. He says that anyone with any sense knows that ‘Landy’s rock’. I sincerely hope he is right.
I’m also not quite sure where we are going – they said “Africa” which sounds far……. I did hear that we are going to the Kruger and then to Zongoene in Mozambique which is great. I’ve been there before and had a great time.
Anyway the sun is disappearing so I guess it’s bedtime……… Goodnight ………..
Me and Steed waiting (Im)patiently !!!!!!
The ‘Sort of Phase’ Leave a comment
What is the ‘sort of phase’ we hear you ask……. it’s the part in the planning when everything is ‘sort of’ done but no job is complete. eg. the food is ‘sort of’ packed, the admin is ‘sort of’ done, the inoculations are ‘sort of’ finished…. you get the drift …..
With two weeks until the movers come and less than 3 weeks until we need to be on the road we need to focus and move to the ‘thank god that’s done’ phase.
The good news is that Humble Home and Steed are all serviced and keen to be going. All our equipment is working and ready for the off. The solar panel is a dream and is charging the batteries despite being 3C outside this morning.
The big jobs are all done – house sold (not that this stops Jhb municipality from billing us), freelander sold (a sad day), USD’s delivered (we’re in the money), tax returns done (without a SARS reminder !!).
So now it’s a few boring things such as sorting out pensions, cancelling dstv, collecting bearings, padlocks and batteries and organising prescriptions for anti-malaria meds and antibiotics.
Todays jobs – packing toiletries (yup – hard to get 2 ply in most countries and there are some things you should not compromise on), packing clothes and linen, labelling the chargers and cables.
Then it’s fun all the way – not to mention sun, sea, prawns and a tipo tinto (or 3)…………..
