Fish River Canyon and the Roadhouse   2 comments

We were a little bit disappointed by the canyon.  Arguable the largest canyon in Africa and second largest in the world it didn’t inspire us as much as Blyde River Canyon.  We do think it would be a different and much better experience if hiked.  With over 80 kms of tough terrain over 5 days this is not something on our to do list but maybe in the next life if we come back as a couple of donkeys !!!!!!

The real attraction in the neighbourhood seems to be the Canon (yes Canon not canyon) Roadhouse.  It is another Gondwana resort and is set up similar to an old Garage Workshop complete with pin up calendars from yester years.   It’s like stepping into a museum with old ambulances, cars, signs, petrol pumps etc.   A fascinating place and with good food and a cold Hansa, who could ask for more.

Of course you could always ask for special parking for those fortunate to drive a Land-Rover….   Oh wait – they already have that too !!!!!!!!

Pretty cool bar huh??  If you have a spare number plate, take it along and have it put on the roof.

There’s also some pretty cool advice for those heading into Namibia.  With most of the roads corrugated or gravel, this is worth keeping in mind. For us it was back to the land of milk and honey with its tarred roads.
